Acoustic Performance

In every CLT construction, acoustic resistance is an essential project component. The use of timber elements provides for excellent airborne sound insulation. The absence of cavities in the structure prevents the propagation of sound waves. The use of CLT for attics decreases vibrations and impact noise. Incorporating a combination of acoustic fleece and mineral wool covered by a perforated metal liner, we can achieve even better sound absorption properties.

A real example (test performed on site)

•external facade wall: standardized sound insulation facade

D2m,nT,w = 49dB > 43dB (reference value for Klimahouse Gold certified) > 40dB (Italian standard D.P.C.M. 5-12-97)

•internal wall between units: sound insulation

R’w= 69dB > 56dB (reference value for Klimahouse Gold certified) > 50dB (Italian standard 5-12-97)

•attic partition floor between units: sound insulation

R’w= 68dB > 56dB (reference value for Klimahouse Gold certified) > 50dB (Italian standard D.P.C.M. 5-12-97)

•interior partition floor between units: noise from normalized footfall

L’nw= 45dB < 53dB (reference value for Klimahouse Gold certified) < 63dB (Italian standard D.P.C.M. 5-12-97)
